When the Wolf Comes Knocking (The Friday Ficks S5 E41)

Many things come in sets of three. There’s even a Latin phrase for it — omne trium perfectum — “the rule of three.” It suggests that things which come in threes are more balanced, complete, and memorable.

Think the Gettysburg address and its “of the people, by the people, for the people” ending. Or the real estate sales adage of “location, location, location,” Julius Caesar proclaiming “I came. I saw. I conquered,” and the jazz trio Blood, Sweat & Tears.

Lest we forget, the Three Little Pigs.

Germany’s Jens Voigt, a retired Tour de France rider known for his grit and endurance, once shared advice he calls his “Three W” tips:

● Remember WHERE you are from;

● Remember WHO your true friends are; and

● Remember WHAT makes you successful.

Voigt’s wisdom goes far beyond cycling. It’s a simple framework for staying grounded, grateful, and focused — whether you’re leading a team, raising a family, or chasing your next big goal.

When you lose sight of your where, who, or what, life’s headwinds can knock you off balance.

So, build your house well. Stay true to your roots, your people, and your purpose.

If you hold those three W’s close, you’ll have the sturdy foundation of the third little pig — the one whose brick house stood strong when the Big Bad Wolf came knocking.

Own the day. Own the weekend.
