A Watch That Just Says Now. (The Friday Ficks S6 E26)
Time.
Prisoners do it. Lawyers bill it. Runners chase it. Swiss trains famously keep it.
And Jimmy Buffett sang about it.
Beneath the tropical shirts, blender drinks, and endless cries of "Fins Up!" was a songwriter who spent more than fifty years sneaking wisdom into his lyrics.
“Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On” illustrates this well: "I bought a cheap watch from a crazy man floating down Canal. It doesn't use numbers or moving hands. It always just says now."
A watch that always says now. There's an idea. The beauty of that watch is its simplicity. It neither predicts the future nor dwells on the past. It simply reminds us where life is actually happening.
Tomorrow is uncertain. Yesterday is gone. But now is sitting right in front of us, waiting for a response.
Now might be the time to call the friend you've been meaning to check on, or to repair a strained relationship.
Now might be the time to sign up for the race, start the project, take the trip, or support the cause that keeps tugging at your heart.
Now might even be the time to show yourself a little more grace.
The watch in Buffett's song never uses numbers. It never moves its hands. And according to Jimmy, it's never wrong.
Maybe that's because the most important moment isn't later. It's now.
What does your watch say?
Own the day. Own the weekend.
