Shrink the Ship: Choosing Tinytanic Over Titanic (The Friday Ficks S5 E49)

Titanic.

More than a century later, the word still lands with a thud. It’s shorthand for catastrophe, the kind of all-caps disaster we assume lurks around every corner.

Maybe that’s why so many of us feel perpetually braced for impact. The smallest inconvenience hits, and suddenly it’s Code Red. Everything feels like doom and gloom.

With the holidays peeking around the corner, that sense of overwhelm gets louder. Expectations rise, calendars fill, and every emotion seems to come wrapped in flashing lights.

But here’s the truth: not every moment is a Titanic moment. Many are far smaller, gentler, and more manageable than our anxious minds suggest.

They’re “Tinytanic moments,” and they are everywhere if we notice them.

Tinytanic moments appear when we stay loyal to simple grounding habits -movement, sleep, moderation. When we give ourselves permission to say no. When we pause long enough to see that differences don’t always mean conflict, and not every bump requires a full-scale emotional evacuation.

A Tinytanic mindset is perspective in action: taking something big, breathing through it, and restoring it to reality.

In the light of day, problems that felt indomitable often shrink. “Deal-breakers” soften into misunderstandings. What seemed overwhelming reveals itself as merely overhyped. Hope, which felt impossibly out of reach, steps back into view.

So as the holidays approach, shrink the ship by trading the Titanic lens for the Tinytanic one.

Let small be enough.

Let simple be powerful.

Let perspective be your anchor.

Own the day. Own the weekend.

Carl
